TIP.

This is coolbert:

TIP = Turkistan Islamic Party.

The Washington Post [WaPo] not even correctly understanding the situation.

Chinese jihadi not even correct.

Jihadi YES but NOT Chinese as that word Chinese normally, generally and usually understood!

Uighur people and NOT Chinese.

Uighur [Wee-ghar] ethnically NOT Chinese. NOT Han. And NO, I am not being pedantic or splitting hairs here.

"Chinese jihadis’ rise in Syria raises concerns at home"

"a fighter from the Turkistan Islamic Party prepares to fire a missile, during a battle against the Syrian government forces, in Aleppo, Syria. Many don’t speak Arabic and their role in Syria is little known to the outside world. Chinese fighters of the Turkistan Islamic Party in Syria are organized, battled-hardened and have played instrumental roles in ground offensives against President Bashar Assad’s forces"

Further from the wiki an item describing Turkish support for TIP:

Turkish support.

"Turkish connections were used by Uyghur fighters to go into Syria and the humanitarian Uyghur East Turkistan Education and Solidarity Association (ETESA) which is located in Turkey sent Uyghurs into Syria,"

This is all part of the Pan-Turkic movement? Solidarity between those ethnic Turkic people where ever found. The Pan-Turkic movement even having settled Uighur jihadi and their entire families [?] in occupied Syrian territory. See also my previous blog entry regarding Uighur fighting units and personnel in Syria:
